Christmas of Mercy

This time it was going to be different. We would not have the usual Christmas party and Christmas Carols at home; we would try it differently.

Christmas was approaching fast. We needed to organize our usual Christmas Carols within our neighborhood. This time it was going to be different. We would not have the usual Christmas party and Christmas Carols at home; we would try it differently.

Last year we planned to go round the neighborhood singing Christmas Carols. Together with all the children and a few mothers we sang Christmas Carols at the doorstep of every home and in return they gave us a few funds and donations. The children were excited about the activity; in the process of bringing joy to others we also brought the beauty of Christmas Carols to every home. The children learnt that they could give their time and effort to sing, and not be afraid to ask for donations for those in need.

We started the Christmas Carols at about 5:30pm and went all round the neighborhood. The joy of being with toddlers, teens can be contagious. At one of the homes we were offered refreshments! We finished at about 7pm with an overwhelming feeling of gratitude in our hearts.

The children were excited.
From the donations collected we managed to raise about 40,000kshs. We donated the cash and a few items to Mogra Children home. Mogra Children Home cares for orphans and vulnerable children within Nairobi and its environs. As a registered Charitable Children Institution, they offer a caring and a loving family environment for the children.

We went early enough and our children had the great opportunity to meet with other children mostly their age mates. The boys played soccer while the girls took time with the little babies feeding them, playing or just cuddling them.

The experience is indeed worth repeating. In return when asked what they thought about the Christmas Carols, the kids were happy to give rather than always expect to receive, and the time spent talking and playing with the kids was worth every moment. We will indeed try and make it a tradition within our estate to make it a giving Christmas.
