Safe Environment

Following the standards of the Episcopal Conferences members of AMECEA, the Prelature of Opus Dei in East Africa has adopted a number of measures to ensure the protection of children and young people.

Taking into account the norms that the Pope recently promulgated (Linee guida per la protezione dei minori e delle persone vulnerabili, March 26, 2019, motu proprio Vos estis lux mundi, May 7, 2019, etc.), the Prelate of Opus Dei has issued the pertinent Directives containing general principles, rules of prevention, rules of conduct and general guidelines on the handling of complaints about the abuse of minors and vulnerable persons in the apostolic activities of the Work.

In view of these guidelines and the indications given by the Episcopal Conferences in East Africa [AMECEA Child Safeguarding Booklet, Safeguarding children by Kenya Episcopal Conference and others], the Prelature in East Africa has established a Tribunal for dealing with the allegations of sexual abuse of minor by priests, deacons and faithful of the Prelature which text is available here.

To report an instance of sexual abuse of a minor by personnel of the Prelature, please contact the Child Protection Coordinator writing to protection.ea@gmail.com or by phone to:
